Maura Derrane

Maura Derrane

Maura Derrane began her career in Television over a decade ago with RTÉ in Galway. After working as a news researcher she moved on to reporting for radio and television programmes including Nationwide and Morning Ireland. As a fluent Irish speaker from Inis Mór, Aran Islands, moving to TG4 was a natural transition. She worked as a reporter there for two years with the station, during which time she covered the death of princess Diana in London and made a series of mini-documentaries on Romanian orphanages.

Since joining TV3 in 1998 when the station went on air, Maura worked as a reporter and crime correspondent. As well as covering major national stories, she has made documentaries on the Catherine Nevin murder trial and the Irish Army in Lebanon. Ireland AM was a new departure for Maura. She began guest presenting the show in September 2004, and was offered the job after two weeks following a huge public response. She enjoyed the diversity of Ireland AM and said it was great to be able to let her true personality shine after years of serious news reporting.

Maura also enjoyed a stint as Editor of Rejuvenate Magazine.

Maura has returned to TV3 to host the new crime documentary Living With Murder.

Maura is married to Fine Gael TD John Deasy.
