Lenihan: More bank nationalisations could happen

03.07.09

The Minister for Finance has admitted that the situation with Anglo Irish Bank was a disaster - but that bank bailouts were necessary to avoid a staggered economy.

Speaking on "Nightly News with Vincent Browne" last night, Brian Lenihan said that he does not support further nationalisations - but admitted they may yet happen.

While the latest exchequer figures show a total tax take in June of €2.3 billion euro, the country's overall financial outlook is still gloomy - with our banking situation amongst the biggest worries.

Speaking on the International Monetary Fund report the Minister admitted that future nationalisation of Bank of Ireland and AIB was a real possibility

Minister Lenihan and the Taoiseach will today debate the findings of the IMF and OECD reports in the Dail.

Minister for Finance, Brian Lenihan joins Vincent to talk about the state of our financial affairs.
